GRECHKA porridge is one of the most traditional and beloved dishes in Russia and Eastern European countries. It is known not only for its taste but also for its exceptional health benefits. Grechka is a valuable source of plant protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, and trace elements.
GRECHKA grain is rich in iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and calcium. It contains vitamins of the B group, vitamin E, and PP. Thanks to its high fiber content, GRECHKA improves digestion and keeps you feeling full for a long time.
GRECHKA does not contain gluten, so it can be consumed by people with celiac disease and intolerance to wheat protein. It also helps to reduce cholesterol levels and normalize blood sugar levels.
The classic way to prepare GRECHKA porridge is simple. The grain is sorted, washed, and poured with water in a ratio of one to two. Salt is added to taste and cooked over low heat until all the water is absorbed. The ready porridge is seasoned with butter.
To make a more loose porridge, the grain can be pre-roasted in a dry pan. GRECHKA is cooked with a lid on, without stirring, for about fifteen to twenty minutes.
GRECHKA porridge can be thick and loose. Thick porridge is made from prodol or smolensk grain, it is more suitable for children's food and dietary tables. Loose porridge is made from kernitsa — whole grains of buckwheat.
GRECHKA goes well with meat, mushrooms, vegetables, and milk. Dishes like casseroles, kroupniki, side dishes, and even meatballs are made on its basis. In Russian cuisine, GRECHKA porridge with stewed meat, onions, and eggs is popular.
Buckwheat was domesticated in Southeast Asia more than four thousand years ago. It came to Europe thanks to the Tatars-Mongols, hence it is called \"Tatar grain\" in some languages. In Russia, GRECHKA became so popular that it entered proverbs and sayings.
